Holidays

Well I have been away with very bad internet connection for the last two weeks and it will be one more before I am back on and able to link and talk for awhile. Thanks :)

cigarettes

when he ashed his cigarette,
it was as bright as her hair
backlit by sunlight
and the cherry was pointed
like a candycane
or her fingernails
as he sucked on the filter.

Transience and Graffiti

The element of decay in art is known as entropy, a concept used by Robert Smithson in pieces like Glue Pour. The piece is created, and with time it disappears. This seems like an esoteric art idea, but its the same concept that makes graffiti and other street art worth searching out.

On the other hand, there's the graffiti removers, painting over the brick walls the graf artists already hit. Satirical or Strangely True makes the case that these city workers are in fact, highly paid artists.

Either way, none of this is going to last.

Trash Can Seance

Tim Noble and Sue Webster

these shadows cast on the wall are poignant; they're full of personality and they capture a moment. the shadows give us a voyeuristic perspective; we know there's someone there, but we can't see who.... but when we go to look, it's just trash.

Is the trash saying that there's no substance there?
There once was something of value in that relationship, but now it's all gone.
People are garbage? Relationships are waste products?

Or maybe it's the opposite;

there's small pretty moments if you look past the landfill.
or even when all you see is a dump, you might be missing a chance to connect....

Or--

Maybe this is just proof I should go dumpster diving. It's on my list of things to do, after all. Maybe I can find some useful material for my installation classs next semester and cross something off of my to-do list.

Physical Creativity

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day. By the other day, I really mean about three weeks ago, right before final exams and projects for the last few weeks of school started pulling my sanity out from the roots of my soul.

Apparently, physical stuff can be construed as creativity. In my opinion, it's a different aspect of people's natural abilities but I wouldn't put it in the realm of creativity. Until I went snowboarding. Snowboarding is one activity I will make room in my life for even if it means I'm going to be awake for 28 hour straight. It rejuvenates my mind and makes me think. And when it's done intuitively, there is something creative about it. And when you throw yourself into a jump, and decide how its going to be executed, that is pretty creative, too.
